Georgia DOT wants motorists to be aware of nighttime striping operation with ramp and lane closures on Interstate 16 (I-16) at I-516 interchange in the City of Savannah.

Georgia DOT crews are scheduled to work Sunday through Wednesday nights from 11:30 p.m. until 4 a.m. starting this Sunday, December 3. This operation will be conducted at night to minimize impacts to the traveling public. All work is weather contingent and subject to change.

Work will proceed Sunday and Monday eastbound on I-16 with left lane closures and on-ramp closures from I-516 East (Exit 5), then Tuesday and Wednesday westbound on I-16 with left lane closures and on-ramp closures from I-516 West (Exit 5).

The new striping will extend the solid white line requiring vehicles exiting the ramp to stay within that lane for an additional 200 feet before merging into I-16 travel lanes. This minor operational change is to enhance safety for motorists at the interchange.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution while driving in these areas. On-site message boards indicating dates and times will be present in advance of these closures.
