No. 15 Georgia (0-1) at No. 24 Notre Dame (1-0), Saturday 7:30 p.m. (NBC)

Line: Notre Dame minus 4.

Series record: Georgia leads 1-0.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

A night game at Notre Dame Stadium against a traditional Southeastern Conference power provides a big stage early in the season for Notre Dame and coach Brian Kelly to show his revamped program is ready to leave last year’s 4-8 flop behind. Georgia comes in with less pressure, but the opportunity to make a statement of its own by beating the Irish with freshman QB Jake Fromm making his first start after Jacob Eason was injured in the opener.

KEY MATCHUP

Georgia’s offensive line vs. Notre Dame’s defensive line. The line matchup when Notre Dame has the ball features some future first-round draft picks, but it’s each team’s perceived weakness that is likely to decide this. The Bulldogs have two of the best running backs in the country in Sony Michel and Nick Chubb, but the offensive line is a work in progress. Notre Dame’s defensive front doesn’t have much depth and will need big performances from tackles Jerry Tillery and Jonnathan Bonner to at least slow the Bulldogs’ backs.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Georgia: QB Fromm. The Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart likes the freshman’s leadership skills and make up. Still, throwing him in for a first start at Notre Dame Stadium is not ideal. Chubb and Michel are good enough to keep Fromm in comfortable situations.

Notre Dame: QB Brandon Wimbush. The junior delivered in his starting debut against Temple last week, showing off his arm (184 yards and two touchdowns) and legs (106 yards and a touchdown).

FACT & FIGURES

The only other meeting was in the 1981 Sugar Bowl. Herschel Walker and the Bulldogs beat the Fighting Irish to win the national championship … For the first time on record, Notre Dame had three 100-yard rushers last week in Wimbush and RBs Josh Adams and Dexter Williams … Georgia is the 75th different opponent to visit Notre Dame Stadium since it opened in 1930 … The Irish are playing a regular-season game against an SEC team for the first time since 2005, when they beat Tennessee.
