A teacher has been arrested in North Georgia after reports that she had an intimate sexual relationship with a middle school student.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reports it received information regarding the relationship between physical education teacher Shawnetta D. Reece, 40, and a then 15-year-old student. The student was moving from the 8th grade into the 9th grade during the alleged incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to look into the allegations dating back to 2013. The Union County Sheriff’s Office is still assisting with the investigation, however, Reece was arrested and charged with child molestation and sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.

Once the investigation is complete, it will be provided to the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney for prosecution.
